Stand Up, Stand Up & Potty Power

My little urchins are doing so much these days. First of all, each and every day we have more real conversations with Dylan. By this I mean that, not only can we understand the words that she's saying, but we're getting sentences and real answers to questions. Like, "What did you learn today?" She answers, "Tap.Tap.Tap" Excellent! This would be on Monday, when she has dance. Or, "Dylan, who do you want to come to your Birthday party?" Her reply, "Ummm....Ma-cy, No-ah...Phillip no come, Phillip no come." We're just glad to be speaking mostly English. And to finally hear the words that she's been saying, but that sounded very similar to Japanese...."I love you too" - well it's nearly heartbreaking. Speaking of heartbreaking, try bawling happy tears while Dylan sings Jesus Loves Me on the way to school!

My little man is just as chunky as ever! He's so sweet. His new word is "Uh-ohhhhh." Those five h's are there for a reason too, not just eye-appeal. It's a very exaggerated word for him. So cute! Lane has been pulling up and cruising for some time. Friday night, we were in Dallas visiting Cade and Lesli and he decided to show us he could stand up all by himself in the middle of the room. He did this twice and then saw Dylan running around and it seemed he decided that crawling was much faster, so why bother. Hasn't done much of it since then, but it's coming.

My baby girl is on her 2nd week of wearing big girl panties! In fact, we've got to get some more, but those things are expensive! Well, they aren't cheap. And I'm talking Target, not Victoria Secret. What the heck! Anyway, we're still having VERY FEW accidents, but I'm constantly washing those things. She's been doing great, until Sunday at Pump It Up. We experienced the I'm Not Gonna Stop Playing to Go thing. That was fun. Luckily I had packed extra everything.

D has a new friend. Little Macy. Macy has long hair, is a bit of a tattle-tell and is nearly a year older than Dylan. I think Macy's one of the oldest and Dylan is one of the youngest in their class, but they have become peas in a pod, or so it seems. They were inseperable at the party. I may help keep Macy on day care holidays (another post), so I'll keep you posted on that. Philip was witness to his first encounter with Female Fickleness. He used a different word though. He came up to me at the party Sunday and said, "Man, girls are ***bleeps***." I asked why and he replied, "Because Dylan and Macy just got into a fight and they were pulling each other out of that car, and now they're back to playing together again." "Oh, that's called fickle. That's only going to get worse," I explained.

Let's see...what else? Dylan is swimming by herself with a life jacket on. Lane loves the water, but isn't really into actually swimming yet.

Oh, you'll love this - on our way home from Dallas Saturday, Lane had finally given in and conked out, however Dylan was fighting it. But she was being good, until I heard her say, "Hey! Hey! Wake up! Hey, Lane! Wake up!" I wanted to stick a sock in her mouth! That little terd. She was telling Lane to wake up b/c she wanted some company. She was successful. He awoke. He smiled for a second, then proceeded to wail. Lovely.

We've got the whole fam coming in this weekend for Cade and Lesli's shower. And cousin Colton will be here as well, so lots of fun in store. More to come!!!

The Power: Daughter Over Daddy

Anyone who is a daughter, has a sister, is a daddy of a daughter, knows a daddy of a daughter, knows a daughter of a daddy - you get the picture - you know that there is a certain power; a certain connection daughters have with daddys (most of the time).

I happen to know this from experience, and I happened to know, in a foreseeing kind of way, when we found out we were going to have a little girl Pregnancy Round 1, that we would be having a daddy's girl. In fact, I had anxiety and worries that our daughter and Philip would gang up on me, and talk about bad dinners behind my back. Little did I know they wouldn't bother with secrecy, but they'd just lay it out there. I digress.

I knew she would have him wrapped around her finger, and although Philip would consistently deny it, I knew better. Dylan has experienced many things, many leniencies, many of lifes treats, due to her relationship with her father - donuts, chocolate milk (at an earlier age than I would have liked), chips for a snack almost nightly, the exhilaration of flying through the air towards Gigi's headboard from the launch pad of Gigi's bedroom door and her daddy's arms; being thrown into the air nearly hitting the ceiling or fan; sliding down the slide upside down on her back naked into the baby pool - all of these things are daddy introduced, and what a more wonderful life she will live because of him.

Dylan continues to grow into her daddy relationship daily. And Philip continues to fall head over heels each day. You can see it in the pictures of her first few weeks of life - he didn't know what had hit him, but he was helpless. Strangers can see it anywhere we go, just by seeing the way that he looks at her. So, it's no secret the relationship they have, and I know this better than anyone.

HOWEVER, there are things about Philip that don't just change. Anyone who knows Philip, knows of his stubborness, how set in his ways he is - we're talking cement, not heavy sand. He's a man's man, he has his OWN thoughts and thought processes.

But tonight, I was priviledged to see the furthest extent of Daughter over Daddy power, I've seen yet.

I wanted to go for a walk this evening, and I was going to take Lane. Dylan was watching a movie and I never dreamed she'd want to come, and Lane enjoys our walks and plus it makes him very relaxed (sleepy). So, as I put Lane in the stroller and got ready to head out the door, Dylan jumps up and says she wants to go. Embarrassingly I admit, I questioned her - Are you sure you want to go baby? Aren't you watching your movie? Sounds terrible, I know, but we didn't splurge for the two-seater stroller. Even when Megan called when I was pregnant with Lane and said there was one for sale down the street from her for $30, I turned it down, determined that Dylan would walk everywhere by the time Lane got here. What the heck was I thinking? Anyway, I'm too frugal (anal) to buy one, so we have about 3 single-seater strollers, and while I've considered bungie-cording two of them together, I haven't actually tried that, at Philip's request.

So as I'm standing in the entryway trying to decide what to do, Dylan whips her curls around and turns to her Daddy and says, "Daddy I go for walk," as she pulls on her stroller. Ohhhh dear....poor thing, I'm thinking. She really wants to go, but that's never going to happen. Bless her heart. But I decided to play along, and jokingly said, "Aahhh...Philip, she really wants to go, come on, you better come with us." I can see the look of disgust on his face.

To Philip's credit though, the man works outside each and every day, all day, and not just working, we're talking labor-intensive work. Sometimes lifting 30-40lb. block all day long. And the temperature has been in the triple digits for two weeks. Plus, he's never ever ever done any type of exercise other than playing a sport or swimming, and if you told him swimming was exercise he probably wouldn't do it.

Anway, back to Daughter Power - I'm laughing inside, because I can tell Dylan is really working him, but I know he's not going to go. But Dylan persists "Daddy, I go, I go." Oh man, she's good.

"Fine." WHAT?!?!?!?!? Yes, he said "Fine." My eyes were as big as golf balls. I wheeled around and took Lane outside as they went back in to get Dylan dressed. I'm dumbfounded, I don't know this person. It really is true. The power of daughters over daddys is truly POWERFUL. It's undeniable. It's unrelenting. I knew I had that capability at one time, but it is so different to see it in action in your daughter in this situation.

And so, my husband, walks out with a stroller (the wrong one, but he wasn't going back) and he walked with us. He walked the entire time, pushing a stroller. I couldn't help it, but I was smiling ear-to-ear the entire way. I couldn't stop. I was almost laughing out loud with joy. I never thought in a million years I would ever see this and here we were - walking the neighborhood. He's going to kill me for posting this, but I could not resist. It's too good!

More power to you baby girl! Peace and love.
